Week 8 Term 2

House Keeping

• Congratulations to Rafe. You have shown curiosity, communication, caring and respect in all aspects of school life this week. Enjoy your weekend with Kaz. 
• This week we've noticed many tired children. Please keep an eye out for illnesses and have a restful weekend, if possible. 
• Parent Helper: 3rd March Thursday 11:00 - 12:10 is Soumee. Please arrive at 10:55am so I can explain what you will be doing.
• Mystery Reader: 4th March Friday 1:30 - 1:40pm is Gina. Please give Ms Sue a wave and she'll let me know you're waiting at the brown door near the stairwell close to our classroom. (Please keep the identity of our Mystery Reader a mystery for your child)
•  If you haven't already sent in photos (via email), one for each year of your child's life, please do so by Monday if you can. 

Living and Non-Living

This week we have tapped into the children's interests around animals. They have visited the library to look at non-fiction books all about their favourite animals. We have discussed what they believe living things are versus that of non - living things. We watched a video highlighting some things we can look for when deciding if something is living. Can your child tell you what they think is living?

A small group of children went on a living hunt at school. They turned this into a living and non-living hunt, sorting out which things they could see were living and those that were not.

Subtraction

For the last two weeks one of the provocations set out for children was based on the concept of subtraction. Over these weeks different groups of children have come together to explore how subtraction works. Through this experience it's been great to see children highlighting to each other the importance of checking their working, taking turns and showing perseverance and patience with each other. 

                     

K1 Service

Next Thursday during Discovery Time our children will be hosting children from Child @ Street 11. This week we have talked about the UN Rights of Children and the importance of being able to play. We have organised the children into committees to organise the play provocations they believe will encourage our visitors to play with them. 

The Body and Mind Change Over Time

Thank you to the parents who have sent in the photos as requested in last week's blog. The children have really enjoyed guessing, which child is in each photo. They have really noticed the notion of growth. We have begun to make a book about how we have grown and what we can now do. We will continue this experience this coming week. If you haven't already sent in photos (via email), one for each year of your child's life, please do so by Monday. 

Parent Helpers

Thank you to Kaye, Cris and Mandy for the incredible creations you assisted the children with on Thursday. I must apologise I didn't get a chance to take any photos of the experience or the creations. I'm sure the parents who received those creations heard all about it. 

Thank you to Tiana for coming in to make banana pancakes with the children. It was a big hit!
