Term One Week 2

Week at a glance...

This week our children have been getting into the routines of school. We have been continuing to make connections and discuss our class agreements. The children have been learning to work together to take care of their friends and their classroom. A small group of children worked together to create, 'Our Class Agreements' book.

Making our 'Walking Feet' page

Our Agreements

We use walking feet

We use caring hands

We are responsible (packing away and respecting our class materials)
We also had a discussion about what we can do if someone is bothering us.
1. Tell your friend "Please stop (hitting me/pushing me etc) I don't like it"
2. Walk away
3. Find a teacher

Highlights

We spent time getting to know each other by making our class birthday graph. We discovered there are five children who have birthdays in February.

Metaproject: What we know...

This year the K1 children will be inquiring into 'Our World'. This week we began by asking children what they already knew about the world. We began by using the our 'See, Think, Wonder' thinking strategy. We asked the children what they could see in their world, we received a variety of comments from naming places and animals, to talking about the shape of the world and where people live. It even sparked a few conversations about outer space and dinosaurs! We look forward to seeing where this inquiry will take us this year.

Blue Folders

In your child's blue folder you will find an A3 sheet of paper with 'What is your world?' on it. This paper is for you and your child to express what the world is to them, in whatever way your child feels most comfortable (ie. drawings, photos, words, collage etc). Once they are returned we will reflect on them in small groups at school. Please remember there is no wrong answer or wrong way to use the paper given, creativity is always encouraged.

House Keeping

  • To avoid leaks in bags and in cubbies we kindly request that you leave water bottles at home. The children have access to water at school.

  • Next week we will begin taking books home, please ensure your child's school bag is big enough to carry: books, a lunch bag and your child's blue folder.

  • Next Friday 4th September we have our school photos. It will be first thing in the morning. We look forward to seeing everyone in their school uniforms with their smiles all ready.

  • I look forward to seeing you next Wednesday at our Parent Teacher Meetings. Please confirm you have received your time slot.

I leave you with a snap shot of our week...
