Week 7 Term 2

House Keeping

•  If you have a chance on the weekend to email me one photo of each year of your child's life that would be very much appreciated. 

• Kaz the Koala has come to visit from Australia. Each weekend a child in class will be chosen to play host to Kaz the Koala and her diary.  The child who gets to take Kaz home will take a photo of some of the things they have done with Kaz over the weekend and write a short sentence (with parent support or parent scribing) about what they did with Kaz in the diary. That child will then get to share their adventures with the class on Monday.  Feel free to get creative with your page! 

Congratulations Lizzie! This week you have shown perseverance when trying to make good choices in class.  

Mother Tongue Day

Thank you to all our parents who helped make Mother Tongue Day a success in our class. A very big thank you to Tiana, one of our class mums, for organising our parent volunteers. 

Mystery Reader
A big thank you to Catriona this week for being our Mystery Reader. She was such a good sport, having a larger audience to read to.

Allen The Alien

We've had a few visitors this week, Allen the Alien was one. He is new to our planet and needed to learn many new things about the strange looking people in our class! The children were more than happy to explain to Allen what humans are and what they need to survive...

Healthy Vs Unhealthy

The children explored what foods they believed were healthy and unhealthy by feeding the very popular food robots in our class. They even made some books about the healthy food they like to eat. 

Needs Vs Wants

Using Allen the Alien as a provocation, the children were asked to design a house with all the things humans might need. This brought about many discussions about what we want to have in a house versus what we need to have in a house. 

Many children decided we needed toilets, sinks, tables, chairs, kitchens, lights and beds. 

Others said they wanted toys and tvs, but that 'grown ups' didn't need them. 

Working together the children made furniture for our house in school to provide Allen with what he might need while staying with us. 

My Safe Place

As part of our Personal/Social curriculum we have been discussing places and people that help us feel safe. The children have been working on individual art pieces to express their own safe place. 

The Week Ahead 

In the coming week we will continue to tap into the children's interest around animals and life cycles, by looking at growth and living things.  If you have a chance on the weekend to email me one photo of each year of your child's life that would be very much appreciated.
